Where Arctic Tradition Meets Oslo’s Waterfront
SALT was originally launched in 2014 as an art project on the remote island of Sandhornøy, SALT was inspired by the fiskehjell—the iconic wooden racks used for drying fish along the Norwegian coast. Today, those soaring triangular structures have found a permanent home at Langkaia, right across from the Oslo Opera House, evolving into a year-round hub for music, theater, and comedy.
The Sauna Village
At the soul of SALT is its Sauna Village. It’s home to Árdna, one of the world’s largest saunas, which transforms into a cultural hotspot with a bar and live DJs on weekends. Whether you’re looking for a guided sauna ritual, a private session with friends, or a brave dip in the cold plunge pools, it’s an experience like no other. In fact, Árdna was recently crowned “The World’s Best Cultural Sauna” at the 2024 World Sauna Awards.
Food, Fire, and Standup
As a part of SALT, you find BÅL (Campfire), a modern take on the age-old tradition of gathering around a flame, you can grill your own food while sharing stories in the open air. Looking for entertainment? Every Tuesday, SALT hosts English stand-up, featuring a rotating cast of international comedians.
