Tales with Loukia

Meet Loukia Blouti, Bar Manager at our award-winning cocktailbar Pier 42. What began as a passion for spirits and wine brought her from Greece to Norway. Today she leads the team at Pier 42 and plays a key role in shaping the bar’s direction at Amerikalinjen. Fun fact: she is also the Acting Food & Beverage Manager.

You’re originally from Greece, how did you end up in Norway, and how did your journey as a bartender begin?

Pier 42 has been a top destination for cocktail lovers in Oslo for years, what do you think has made it such a success, and what makes it stand out in Oslo’s cocktail scene?

We stay true to our craftsmanship, always connected to our brand identity and concept, with consistency in our offerings and an elegant yet down-to-earth and warm approach to our guests.

Tell us about the new concept menu «The Captain’s Diary».

When SS Kristianiafjord embarked on NAL’s first journey in 1913, Mr. S.C. Hiortdahl was her captain. Our cocktail menu is inspired by the Captain’s diary entries, a work of fiction, yet an homage to him and the stories that live on through Kristianiafjord’s journey. It reflects a history of immigration and connection, linking people across oceans from Oslo to New York.

Who should visit Pier 42?

Everyone, Pier 42 is a safe spot for everyone after a hard day at work, a fun place for celebration, and a meeting point in the middle of the city. When anyone would like to indulge in a craft-made cocktail and is intrigued by storytelling, this is the place to be.

Any advice to someone hosting a dinner party, and want to impress with a cocktail?

To begin with, when it comes to hosting, the best drink you can serve is not what’s currently “trending” or “sophisticated”, but the one that actually tastes good to you. I am a huge fan of guilty pleasure drinks myself, so trust your tastebuds! There’s nothing more stressful than a host who is stuck behind a cocktail shaker while the party is in the other room, so for me punches are the ultimate hosting trick. They are colourful, playful and easy to serve. Use the biggest punch bowl you own and a massive block of ice instead of small ice cubes. A good Norwegian gin, some raspberry liqueur, fresh lemon juice and top it up with your favourite bubbles. Garnish with mint and fresh raspberries. Cannot go wrong with that.

What does a perfect day in Oslo look like for you?

A walk in my neighbourhood at Vigelandsparken with my two doggies, good wine and nibbles with my friends, hopefully in the sun!

One of my all-time favourites is, of course, Himkok for its consistently delicious drinks. These days, though, I enjoy a cheeky after-work drink at our neighbour, Hobo Hotel. While still new and fresh to the Oslo scene, the bar and its staff seem very promising. Don’t forget to grab a bite at Kreatur!
